Welcome to Owhango

Our stunning little village is midway between Taumarunui and National Park in the central North Island.

There are around 200 permanent residents and many holiday homes owned by city dwellers who come here to enjoy the serenity and outstanding natural beauty of the area.

We have a primary school, ski shop, hotel/dairy, garage (though no fuel sales), motel, accommodation lodges, cottages for hire, bed and breakfast/homestay places, and a local community hall which can be hired.

Our beloved village green (the Domain) is surrounded by majestic native forest and features a large playing field, children’s play area and tennis court.

Beyond the Domain is the Ohinetonga Scenic Reserve, Whakapapa River and Tongariro Forest, home to a protected population of the North Island brown kiwi.
